SACRA/PROFANA announces its Second Annual Choral Composition Contest.

CRITERIA: Composers of all ages and nationalities are encouraged to submit original compositions for mixed choir. Length should be under 6 minutes long, although multi-movement works with movements under 6 minutes will also be considered.
Preferred voicing is SATB, with or without keyboard accompaniment (divisi up to SSAATTBB acceptable). Works for SA (div. up to SSAA) or TB (div. up to TTBB) will also be considered, as will works with light instrumental accompaniment (3 players or less) other than keyboard.
AWARD: SACRA/PROFANA will award a $250 cash prize to one composer, and will perform the winning piece during our 2010/2011 season (in both a live performance and a professional recording). We reserve the right to withhold the award if none of the submissions meet our criteria for performance.
HISTORY: Our 2009 Composition Contest generated the receipt of 68 submissions from all over the U.S., as well as Canada, Italy and the Netherlands. The First Place submission was Joshua Shank’s “A Grass-Green Pillow”, from his “Color Madrigals” cycle. The composer received a $250 cash prize, and his piece will be featured in a performance at the San Diego Museum of Art entitled “White Horses” (Saturday, June 19th, 2010).
TO APPLY: Submissions must include all of the following to be considered:
1. Two copies of the full score.
2. Proof of permission to use text (for pieces using text not in the public domain).
3. $35 submission fee. Checks may be made payable to SACRA/PROFANA. Composers submitting more than one piece should add $15 per additional piece.
